Ghost - 1990

Director: Jerry Zucker
Cast: Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopee Goldberg, Tom Goldwyn
Rating:

I’ve always heard people talking about an all times classic, and I always thought… what kind of movie could be named “Ghost”; is it a scary movie, a thriller maybe?… is this really the movie that made Demi Moore become every man’s dream?… and who is Patrick Swayze? I have no idea why but I never bothered to dig for it until one day I got fed up with people’s reactions when they hear its title, especially my mother’s, then I decided to rent the movie and see what it’s about.
Well to be honest it’s not that much of a hit; It’s not a horror movie as well… on the contrary, it’s a love story and Demi Moore is a sweet heart in it, however, Patrick Swayze doesn’t have enough charisma, maybe that’s why I didn’t know him back then, though I know almost every name of who’s ever been on the big screen. So the movie is a romantic one after all, with a twist of comedy in the presence of the psychic Oda Mae (Whoopee Goldberg) and action in some violent scenes… that’s when Sam (Patrick Swayze) becomes a ghost…
If you come to think it of objectively you’ll find out that this movie may have been a hit back in 1990 where the whole idea of speaking to the dead and how a ghost feels and its accompanied effects formed a totally new controversial idea in Hollywood.
“Ghost” is one of those movies that people just love. Though during initial screening stages, lots turned Sam’s role down because they thought it was just so cheesy like Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, & Bruce Willis - who was Demi’s husband at that time.
If your knowledge about this movie is limited to this review or a few others, and of you’re sick & tired of hearing people talking about it as their favorite, you might wanna settle it in your head and watch it!

I think the movie title is very deceiving, for me it was just bad entertainment nothing more, cannot put it into any other genre
The best thing Patrick Swayze ever done in his life was singing She’s like the wind
And the smartest thing he ever done for that matter was not trying to sing anything else
Cheers.
I think its absurd from start to finish, on all levels… and even for 1990 standards. Why it became a hit I’d never understand… considering the really good movies that came out the same year… Think Pretty Woman, Edward Scissorhands, Dances with Wolves (yeah this even)… etc etc!
