The Queen - 2006

The Silver Screen has witnessed lots of biographies about famous mythical, religious, medieval, and recent kings and queens; most remarkable of them all was the whole lot of England’s Queens!
This movie is about Queen Elizabeth II (Helen Mirren), but it’s not about her life in general, it’s about just one week of it… the week around the death of Lady Diana.
It is quite fascinating to observe the news’ impact from an insider’s eye… within the walls of the palace. What is most notable is that this incident is still quite vivid to most of the last generation, so mature viewers have already experienced the 1997’s tragic news and had their own say and judgment about the accident. The media had a fair lot as well in framing multiple and sometimes opposing images to the princess’s death; definitely depending on the news source whether it was British, American, or Middle Eastern (baring in mind that Diana’s boyfriend was from a totally different culture and religion). However, nobody wondered how the royal family received the news especially Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, & Prince Philip.
The movie is a nice outlook to the queen’s inner personality in terms of her reactions to harsh situations based on how she was raised and the experience she has been through… as tough and expressionless she is, still, she does acquire a veiled soft side deep inside where she is a cautious mother, a patient wife, and a very protective grandmother in addition to being an ideal queen.
The movie is an educational close-up to a different angle of Diana’s terrible death whether this did happen or not, though the movie’s credibility is somehow reliable since the director (Stephen Frears) had enormous interviews with insiders and close people to the royal family, it is still a summary of seven of the most hard days in the history of this great kingdom where passive sirens were releasing a fall-down warning to Britain… just because of the royal family’s indifferent reaction to the loss of the Peoples’ Princess… as the former Prime Minister, Tony Blaire, referred to her.
Many may find the movie boring, yet, others might be intrigued to have a profound glance at the breaking news’ blow… whether what the movie shows happened or not… do watch it sometime!

I was very skiptecial about watching this one…and I did not actually…
However I could not help taking a peak every now and then while it was playing and it is very much different than what I expected.
Amazing performance and great direction.
