Luther - 2003

This movie is not a blockbuster and I do not remember if it was ever in theaters… you will just have to go dig the shelves of some DVD store to find it.
Most of you know about the famous German Monk Martin Luther and his new beliefs and practices that challenged the religious authority back then in the Vatican. My knowledge was bounded to the few lines I just mentioned, other than that, I had no idea about his struggle, origin, way of life and the essence of his beliefs… and as part of this world everyone of us should have a brief background about the history of such a religious icon.
Now here is a movie that tells you the biography of this man, how did he start, what obstacles he faced, and what was the result of his new theories.
As I said, the movie strictly focuses on the life of Martin Luther from his early youth, so you may find the movie slow and very conversational… and in some other parts you may get confused with all the religious figures appearing since two countries were involved, Rome and Germany, and in the movie they sure both speak English so it may take you a while to memorize faces and get used to them.
‘Luther’ is a valuable reference for the life and history if such a remarkable figure. I actually was intrigued by his beliefs, concepts, and practices… something I briefly heard of but never got the chance to deeply conquer his own reasons behind such implications.
You have to treat this movie as a dramatic documentary; otherwise, there will be no entertainment during the show. I suggest it to all those who really want to get acquainted with Martin Luther through a familiar face (Joseph Fiennes)… watch the movie!
