Forest Gump – 1994

Director: Robert Zemeckis

Cast: Tom Hanks, Robin Wright Penn, Sally Field, Gary Sinise

Rating:

It took me a while to decide on writing this review… people have watched this movie a thousand times and are already in love with its character Forest. Anyone will pause the channel if it’s on TV or recommend renting it again and again. What actually triggered me is that I did watch it on TV for like the 25th time two weeks ago… I just couldn’t help turning the channel somewhere else.

I always think… what was going in the director’s (Robert Zemeckis) head when he came up with the story; did he really think of mixing all these well known facts and relate their origin to one single slow-minded man… Forest Gump (Tom Hanks). Just put yourself in his shoes and think of it for a while: the movie is about a guy, not even an average one, who unintentionally drove history to a totally different perspective and introduced us to common things we encounter in real life like the Smiley :-) for instance… the other supporting factor of the story line is a sad love story so if you run a quick estimate to his movie scratch you will find out that the plot will make him loose the romantic, dramatic, and the rational audience… without mentioning the shallow ones who watch a movie just because the title sounds exciting where here it’s the name of the guy… Forest Gump… No wonder why the role was turned down by lots of big names such as Bill Murray, John Travolta, & Chevy Chase.

Well, lets get a little bit pre-judgmental here, as if we humans are not; who would ever think the this movie will be a granted success, who would ever think that everyone will know now who is Forest Gump and unconsciously presume that this man really exists, and who would ever think that Zemeckis will go around without being criticized?… well I think he just got a wider vision than most us here… he knew that something will catch every eye and stick in every head…

It is a weird story about a man as I mentioned who has a pretty unusual life and encounters special people such as his mother, Jenny his love, and his army buddy and meets famous people like JFK and Elvis Presley. In reality, The movie genre is pretty hard to decide whether it’s a drama, adventure, romance, comedy, or fantasy. Actually it’s the sum of it all… and it’s quite hard to see a movie covering almost two genres these days.

I have no doubt that most of who will read this review have watched the movie, but for those of you who didn’t… trust me! they wouldn’t have put the bench that Forest sat on while telling his story in Savannah History Museum if the movie wasn’t a historical masterpiece… don’t even think twice… you’d better watch it!

This movie definitely changed history :)

It would be one of the very very few movies that would score 5/5 on my charts.

  2. Kamikaze Said,

One of the genuinely funniest movies I know. If you’re destined for greatness, then no handicap, villains, conspiracies or anything else would change your luck!! So innocent and pure he sounds like a cartoon character that’s always funny and that can never be harmed.
I like the idea that nobody is insignificant – every individual has an effect on the world and a role in the course of history.

    I agree it’s a MUST-SEE. There’s something in it for everyone.
